I Believe In 2nd Chances; I’m Not Going To Give You One However
Many people dislike Colin Coherd, just as many people dislike me, and dislike Mike Vick. That’s why I thought it fitting to use a quote from the host of ESPN’s The Herd, in the title of a piece about news on Virginia’s own begotten and forgotten son, the nefarious Micheal Vick.
The news, which is courtesy of Mr. Coherd, reports that the former # 7 is playing for the jail, football team (enter The Longest Yard quip here). Vick, who is stationed at a minimum security prison in Leavenworth, Kansas, has been in written contact with the Falcons’ owner, Arthur Blank and has received visits from director of player development, Kevin Winston.
What most reports on Vick’s return to organized sports have failed to mention is that he isn’t playing full-contact ball. No, Mike is playing flag football according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. So, if you’re worried about him getting cheap shotted or late hit, don’t fret — the worst that could happen is that he could score on every play creating resentment from out inmates thus making it a better possibility he’ll get raped or shanked in the shower.
When asked if there would be room in the NFL for Vick, said Blank: “Despite the mixture of frustration, anger and disappointment in him, I believe in second chances and redemption. I would love to see Michael pay his debt to society and come out and play again in the NFL. I think he could also be a big help to . . . speak to people about some of his choices.”

If I were owner of the Falcons, after Vick lied to me on multiple occasions about dogfighting, there wouldn’t be room on my team for him. I, like most, believe in second chances; I’m not going to be the one to give you one but I believe someone should and obviously, most of the NFL does too. See Ricky Williams, Lawrence Phillips, Chris Henry or anyone on the Bengals for that matter.
Apparently some NFL’ers believe that being a pro entitles them to act as badly as they want all the time knowing they will be given another chance by the league, because they can play. If I went to jail on federal charges, got caught smoking dope, was booked on DUI, was alleged to have spurred a gunfight outside of a “strkip” club, or was brought up on domestic violence stemming from allegedly choking my pregnant girlfriend then I would be out of the job. That sucks doesn’t it.
