Anheuser-Busch To Be Sold. Is America In Decline?

Sidenote: If you are interested in reading about, “The Future of American Power,” then your boy has your back.  Click here and let a much more intelligent being me drop some knowledge.

On to the story.  As a microcosm, at least in my mind, to the larger issue of American dominance or the decline of American dominance, a Belgium beer company has set its sights on a American institution.  Inbev, who produces such libations as Stella Artois and Becks, bid approx. $47 billion for Anheuser-Busch last Thursday.  Both A-B and Inbev’s stocks rose amidst the likelihood of A-B shareholders approving the deal.  Want more details? Here is the Reuters article.

One article I read about this potential friendly but hopefully hostile takeover of A-B stated that politicians around were up-in-arms; stating that because of election season this issue was something their constituents could get behind and they could sink their teeth into.  Well, it is most definitely something they should get behind to stop.  They should do everything in their power to inhibit and prohibit A-B from being sold in spite of the positive influence it will and has had on A-B’s stocks.  Dysfunctional big brother hasn’t been able to pull through on way more menial tasks in the past so what exactly could they do with this?

Another good article, which explains the nitty gritty of this story.

Despite, Inbev’s claim that no American jobs would be lost, Anheuser-Busch is, “the last large-scale American brewery to be majority owned and operated in the United States.”  While the loss of A-B to a foreign entity doesn’t necessarily spell doom for America, it still simply sucks that something we associate with the “American Dream,” patriotism, and the words ‘domestic beers’ might be soon be gone.  If you didn’t know, Anheuser-Busch began as a small brewery located in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1860, Eberhard Anheuser, a German-born prosperous soap manufacturer, became owner of the struggling brewery. Adolphus Busch, Anheuser’s son-in-law, became partner in 1869, and became president when Anheuser died in 1880.

So, I might be overreacting a bit here, because a lot of things we associate with our great country our not necessarily ours and even still if A-B is bought out most people won’t notice a difference, won’t know it’s been bought out, and/or won’t care BUT, you WILL know.

Now, the phrase we’ve associated with A-B for years, “This Bud’s for you,” will leave a totally different taste in your mouth.
