The French Talked Mess, The Americans Busted their Shit
In all seriousness, it was a shock that Phelps and company won the 4X100m. Leading up to it, the French team was in fact the favorite. One of the French swimmers was quoted boasting that his team was going to, “crush the Americans.” That empty prediction turned out to be simply bulletin board material though.
Now I have further proof that while there may be “favorites,” there’s really no such thing as “underdogs” because our hometown yankees who trailed the whole relay besides the first 100m that Michael Phelps swam pulled out the victory by hundredths of a second. The American’s broke the world record by 4 seconds (I believe) and at least 3 other teams were under the previous WR time thus making it the best relay in the history of relays according to the experts.

The American’s anchor Jason Lezak swan the fasted split in 100m relay history keeping Phelps’ bid for 8 gold medals in a single Olympics in tact.
The last thing that stuck out about the gold medal relay was the fact that the third leg of the relay, Cullen Jones, became only the second African-American/Black swimmer to win a gold medal ever. Big ups to him and the rest of the team.
So, as it stands right now on Monday at 12:15 am, the medal count is as follows:
| Country | Gold | Silver | Bronze | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
USA |
3 | 4 | 4 | 11 |
CHN |
6 | 2 | 0 | 8 |
KOR |
3 | 2 | 0 | 5 |
AUS |
2 | 0 | 3 | 5 |
FRA |
0 | 3 | 2 |
