Zornst*r and the Washington Redskins
Everyone knows that if you can make it in Washington D.C. then you can make it anywhere. Coach Zorn has a chance to add some luster to his resume and affirm the aforementioned adage (which I made up but believe) if he can either make the playoffs while everyone outside of the D.C. metro area expects the R-Skins to be bad or present an exciting brand of offensive and defensive football while showing much promise for 2009. How will Zornst*r stack up? That remains to be seen but his first test comes tonight as 4.5 point underdogs against the world champion New York “football” Giants.

In my eyes, the key to the Skins’ winning the NFC East, which is a real option despite what ESPN and Sports Illustrated depict, isn’t Jason Campbell. The key will be Clinton Portis and the defense, per usual. If Greg Blache can get his old, crusty vets to play top-5 brand defense then we can be 9-7 or 10-6 in spite of Campbell’s struggles, which are likely especially early. If CP can have a season similar to 2005 when he averaged 4.3 yards per carry and rushed for a season total of over 1500 yards then we can play a brand of football most fans would associate with the Riggins, the hogs, and three SB wins. “Okay, you hogs, let’s get running down there.” Campbell, if he can work within the offense and play within himself by not throwing late game INTs or fumbling every time he gets sacked, will emerge as Eli Manning did in the late season last year. Remember, it’s not always the best team that wins the Superbowl but the team who is playing the best at the end of the season.

As I started the post off by saying, if you can make it in Washington D.C. then you can make it anywhere. The stresses that come from being the coach of the team in the “most powerful city in the world” are similar to that of being the most powerful man in the most powerful city in the world, the President. As you can see with the picture below, balancing the budget and dealing with interns can physically take its toll. In step with the 2008 presidential election, we bring you Bill Clinton, before and after, taking office. We’ll be keeping an eye on Jim Zorn’s appearance throughout the season. Hopefully, Zorn can provide some stability, direction, and meaning in Washington while maintaining his boyish look. Godspeed.
