The Washington Redskins: America’s Team
We’re now more than a quarter way through the 2008-2009 season and your football team from the District of Columbia, representing the whole Washington D.C. metropolitan area has four wins in five games. Absolutely no one predicted that in Jim Zorn’s first season, his team would be sitting in second place just behind the division leader and Superbowl champion New York Giants.
Regarding today’s game if you thought that there would be a mental and physical let down against the Eagles stemming from the win against the team that hasn’t won a playoff game in 12 years, you thought wrong. Despite our hands-on style of defense and CP left, CP right, CP up the middle style on offense in Dallas for 60 minutes, our Redskins packed their bags and traveled to Philly with a smile.
Though the Redskins looked jet lagged early falling into a 14-0 hole, they woke up scoring 16 unanswered points on their way to a 23-14 victory. Below are some of my thoughts on the huge victory. Just some Food for thought, udothedishes…
Offense
- Jason Campbell, besides the first few drives, looked poised and handled the blitz really well. He is the leader of this team now as if there were any doubt.
- No turnovers. Only team in the NFL without an offensive TO.
- Devin Thomas had a few big catches, one for a third down conversation. We’re going to need him to step up if we want to win the Super Bowl because teams will take Moss away as the Eagles did today.
- Randle-El had approx. three drops but made up for it with his TD pass to Cooley.
- The offensive line and CP did work. What else can you say?
- Zorn’s play calling especially the 4th and 1 where we went for it to close out the game was ballsy.
“You play to win the game.”
Defense
- Without Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, and Jason Taylor our defense played as a cohesive unit. Like the offense they were a bit skiddish early but came into their own the rest of the way on allowing only 3 points after the first quarter.
- Carlos Rogers dropped another INT. This calls for another DB receiving drill in practice.
- London Fletcher covered Westbrooke out of the backfield as well as anyone.
- Didn’t see a lot of our new package with all three safetys in at once. But I might have missed it
- Speaking of safetys, when is Landry going to make heads roll?
- Andre Carter is a stud.
Tremendous win. Can you say 8-1?
