Alto Plaza: Fully-Vested
I have to begin by giving props to Mr. Daniel Thomas (the dapper man with the red vest and red Gucci loafers to match). No one embodied the spirit of Valentine’s Day like Sir Thomas with his impeccable red ensemble and a yearning for the finer things in life. It was that yearning that like Mr. Thomas, brought me to Alto Plaza (and my determination to make it to as many DMV bars and restaurants as humanly possible).
I encountered our friend Mr. Thomas on the third floor. You heard it correct, third floor. I’d venture to say that Alto
Plaza is the only Restaurant/Bar/Lounge in Fairfax County to feature three floors. The 3rd floor AP lounge was part upscale dining area and other part enclosed, filtered cigar lounge/bar. I don’t even smoke cigars or cigarettes and it still was as enjoyable an experience as I’ve had anywhere within the metro area. The lounge couches were comfortable, the drinks were strong, and the service was beyond reproach. The best part about the whole experience though wasn’t the tremendous service from the bar and wait staff or the spacious environment but the fact that the whole place seemed to be douchebag-less, and for that I was grateful.
It’s safe to say that udothedishes will be affiliating officially or unofficially with Alto Plaza to take advantage of their opulent facilities. We’re fully-vested. Click here to check out Alto’s website. Click here to check out Washington post.com user reviews.

I agree that Alto Plaza is a good place to meet some friends for a drink. I do however, have some suggestions/complaints with Alto. First of all, they don’t utilize the whole building. THeir biggest crowd from what I’ve seen is in the bar area but that is only limited to the one side. They show do something to encourage people to use the inside too rather than just for dinner. Secondly is the cigar bar. I love it in the warmer months. Having the outside deck is key but once it gets cold, they keep those doors closed and don’t allow people to open them for ventation. I love a good cigar but when the room is filled with smoke, it is a little much to handle. Besides those two things, Alto is a good spot.
