Quick Grammy Wrap-up
In case you missed the Grammys because you were…watching Desperate Housewives, maybe, here is one of the highlights of the evening. A rotund and pregnant M.I.A. joined Kanye West, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, and T.I. on stage to perform Swagga Like Us. However, don’t be fooled by the stage and flashing lights. It was not a concert performance. It was a “Hip Hop Summit.” I don’t really know what line you cross to turn your performance from a concert to “summit” but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Other summits…err…performances can be viewed at Grammys.com. I recommend watching Jennifer Hudson’s You Pulled Me. Not gonna lie, I teared up a little.

Did anyone notice how, though famous and talented, the winners in the rock categories seem to have had way more thought and time put into them than the winners in the rap? Robert Plant is a Hall-of-fame musician but no one I’ve spoken with knew he put out an album. On the other hand, the urban categories were dominated by the same mainstreamers. You’re telling me they couldn’t throw Lupe Fiasco a bone for Rap Album of the year?
What do these award show even mean anymore?
It’s only about mainstream.
I don’t think I’ll ever watch the Grammys.
