Fed Sends the Rangers Back to the Big Apple

Often times in sports the team that plays the best doesn’t always win. I’ve been a part of a few teams that were good enough to win a championship but fell short because of Lady Luck.  The Washington Capitals, who lost in a seventh game last year to the Philadelphia Flyers, were the better team but they were outplayed tonight on F street.  However, the sporting gods were on our side tonight, through all our seventh game jitters and through the New York Rangers playing absolutely as well as they could.  Mike Green said it best regarding the seventh game, “Last year we were overconfident and this year we were nervous.” Oft times being nervous is easier to overcome than being overconfident, apparently.

Sergei Fedorov, the 39-year-old center and former Frank J. Selke Trophy, Kharlamov Trophy, and Hart Memorial Trophy winner along with being a six-time all-star, doesn’t back down and now picks his moments to impact the game.  Tonight, his top-shelf, short side blast sent the Capitals into the second round and proved that he’s still got it.

Next up, domination of the PA Penguins.  They’re playing well but they’re not tough enough to hang with us.
