Firefighters, Rescue Squad Keep it Terribly Real

Oh how I wish I was a man’s man. A man that does as a man is supposed to do, work with their hands. A blue collar worker like a window washer, navy sniper, or UFC fighter or perhaps a rescue worker. Instead I sit in a desk all day and at my computer all night, intimidating and masculine, I know.

The WashingtonExaminer had a short ‘who, what, where, when, how’ on an incident that took place in Prince George’s Country, Maryland a few months back. I know what you’re thinking, why do I give an Eff about Maryland now, a year and half into this blog and the answer is that I still don’t. But whenever I find a story that makes you challenge and ask yourself if you’re doing everything you can with not only your mind but your body, then I can’t pass it up.

Prince George’s County as you may or may not know, is the wealthiest county in America with a majority black or African American population. In an interesting juxtaposition, in 2006 the county, according to the ubiquitous Wikipedia, accounted for 134 homicides or almost 50% of the murders in the state of Maryland.

0422fire The gist of the story is that firefighters and the rescue squad responded to a scene with multiple victims where the alleged gunman was still at-large somewhere around the aforementioned scene. The men, undaunted, disregarded the danger to themselves to treat the downed victims. For their tireless and tearless acts of bravery all five men received the Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department Emergency Service Award on Monday April 20th.
