Eastern Market Reopening
It is hard to believe that the accidental fire that tore through (the 134-year old) Eastern Market and caused over $20 million in damages was over 2 years ago. About 3 months later a temporary home was found for this DC landmark, but beginning today it is reopening for real, for real. There will a ribbon-cutting ceremony today and tomorrow begining a community celebration including music, market tours, activities, and of course, food.
The reopening means more than just another place to buy food. All the hard work that went into rebuilding the market and the vendors that are mainstays of the community will now be able to return and reconnect with their neighbors. I encourage everyone who is able, to try to make it out there as I am convinced that you will not be disappointed. In a world of Wal-Marts and other faceless corporations, this is a very good opportunity to experience what being part of a family community can be like.
Eastern Market is located conveniently off of the Blue and Orange line of the Metro between 7th and C streets SE Washington D.C. (Capitol Hill).

There’s free music this weekend at Eastern Market.
See the schedule at:

When I lived in DC I went every Sunday. This is by far one of the most entertaining and eclectic parts of a long history of DC. Going next Sunday at 10 if anyone is interested in meeting up to hunt through the flea market there.
Cheers. Great Spotlight on a diamond in the ruff.
