Less Larry Michael on Redskins Nation
Sitting on my couch as Comcast sportsnight wrapped, it donned on me just before its preview that Redskins Nation was coming up next (it was in fact 10:30pm). At this point, I wasn’t thinking of switching the channel as I normally would but instead I figured it be another opportunity to criticize Dan Snyder’s mouthpiece, Larry Michael on this very forum. To my surprise, the show was filmed outside at Redskins’ OTA’s which meant less of Larry Michael’s mug and actual content to back up(or just pair with) some Michael’s nonsensical claims.

Larry and "The Blogger" as he is disdainfully referred to as
The first segment was totally focused on the disappointing redshirt receiver Malcolm Kelly. As most football minds will tell you, it takes a few years for rookie receivers to adjust to the speed and playbook of the NFL but three catches in five games is a terrible year by all accounts. It was reassuring to see Mr. Kelly workout one-on-one with WR’s coach Stan Hixon. But why during an 89 degree day did the pass catcher from Oklahoma have on long sleeves and sweatpants?
During his interview with reporters, number 12 was pretty honest about his motivation for this season eluding to the fact that he feels pressure to perform. Too often we hear pro-athletes being too PC and not letting the public know how they feel. For once, it was cool to see a player not act “too cool for school” and let us know that not only was he working hard after injury but that he felt pressure.
After an interview with Chad Rhinehart or Ethan Albright or one of the other O-lineman (forgive me for not remembering), we were made privy to an interview with Jim Zorn. Nothing really novel there except the blurb that ran at the bottom which stated the Redskins were 23rd in the pass in 2008. No wonder we tried every thing to ship Jason Campbell out of town. But when you think about it it wasn’t all or even half of his fault. True, I would say that he probably isn’t the answer at QB but with a receiving core of 6-footers and below none of which create great separation and it becomes apparent that Campbell’s development was stunted by the people in the game and those who weren’t prepared to play (Davis, Kelly, Thomas). It’s my only hope that Kelly can take Randle-El’s starting job and Randle-El can share time with Thomas at number 3.
Enough of that.
I’ll leave you with this from the DCprosportsreport via WAPO pertaining to Ted Leonsis’s management style. Our friends at the report think fantasy football HOFer, Dan Snyder should take heed of Leonsis’s advice.
On how the front office functions and his role as Owner (DANIEL SNYDER —- PLEASE READ THIS!!! —- read the bold!)
I set strategy– budget and a very few rules– George and Dick and Bruce execute tactics– If George wanted to trade Alex Ovechkin–he would come talk to me; but who he trades for– drafts– who plays– that is up to the professionals; I manage to outcomes–not to process; I have no delusions that I know more about hockey than our staff– I am being exposed to alot–and I think I have learned more and more– but at end of the day–if I make decisions on players or systems — then I cant hold any one responsible; so I think it is working out pretty good right now
