At Udothedishes we like to support local artists especially if their talented as hell. With that said, we introduce you to Tone Kidd.

Mike Nunnally aka Tone Kidd from Danville, VA via George Mason University is one of the stars of the second album released by independent label 2nd 2 Nunn INC. I played college football with him and he is one of the most lyrically gifted guys I have ever heard bless a microphone. I realized T. Kidd’s passion early on in our friendship; whether it was freestyling while kickin’ ass and takin’ names in game of EA sports’ Madden football (I’ve never seen the dude lose) or passing time between two-a-day practices he was always spitting rhymes. Now he’s found a way to bring the high energy he had on the football field to the stage and into the recording studio and you can surely feel that energy when you listen to the album. I can speak from experience, I’ve seen Tone Kidd and fellow artist JayRed perform live on a couple of occasions and they don’t disappoint. Both have stage presence that would rival even the most veteran rappers.

I spoke with T DOTT, the senior advisor at 2ND 2 NUNN INC., the label that produced the compilation album, and he told me he believed that this was €œas complete an album from start to finish as there was out on the streets and that the album has a large number of tracks that he feels can put the label on the map.”

The info on the album is as follows. The making of the album started towards the end of 2008 and was completed early 2009, right after the presidential election. Tone Kidd took the role as executive producer on the album and handled the majority of the song selection for the project. The music was mixed and mastered by Spark Plugg.  The album also features tracks produced from a number of other independent artists such as P Hitz, Skitzo, and Ray Rico. The high fling sound is similar to that of well-known artists such as Lil Wayne and T-Payne. The beats and mixes far exceed what you would expect from an independent label and that is what sets this record apart from others. .  The first release off the new album “2-STEP-GETTIN-IT” won a weekly contest at 1dotfmjamz.com, an internet hip hop radio station.

This Friday they’re having their album release party for Make Room: It’s a new era (Vol.2) at The Republic in the U Street/ Cordoza neighborhood of DC. Tone Kidd will be performing with the rest of the artists on the album and one thing I learned from going to school with these dudes is that they def know how to throw a bash.  For more information check the website and see the flyer below.
