DIY Plastic Surgery

A 54-year-old California woman attempted to perform plastic surgery ON HERSELF. This moron went online, bought liquid silicon and injected it into her lips and cheeks. She said of her attempt at improving her look, “I thought I would be happy with the results.” Her doctor stated, “the tough economy and the easy availability of supplies have caused an uptake in the potentially disfiguring practice…”

I can barely rationalize having plastic surgery, and if I did, it’d only be after my mid-life crisis but doing it myself? Definitely not. Who do you sue for malpractice? Nobody – because you’re stupid and did it yourself.

This is a classic example of why some people cannot be trusted with the freedom they are given. I wonder if at any point of searching for the silicon, purchasing it, and setting up her “surgery”, she ever stopped to think that this could be a bad idea. Furthermore, I wonder how her health insurance is handling getting her out of her predicament, considering that the procedures to undo the damage of her deed are probably pricey.

However, we can learn a few things from Mrs. Joker (anyone else think she looks like Heath Ledger?):

1. The term “Do-It-Yourself” does not apply to anything health-related. This is what doctors go to school for 10+ years. And this is also what lawyers go to school for — just in case they screw up.

2. There is no magic pill to beauty. It takes hard work much like anything else in life. Eat well, get plenty of rest, exercise, use sunscreen and wear shades and hats, and be stress free. These things will improve your appearance and make you feel better about yourself.

3. I think that this is another case of our self-image issues in America, gone completely wrong. Instead of focusing on being the best one can be, we focus on others assets and continually dig ourselves into a deep hole of self-worthlessness.

Hopefully she will get the cosmetic restoration she needs so she can be, as she state, “…satisfied with what [she has]…,” her stupidity baffles me as much as the schoolteacher from CA that sent her students porn of herself, but I do believe I can say that this woman has her beat by miles.
