Rich and Single in Arlington
If you’ve been with us since the beginning when there was no us, it was just me, then you’re well aware that I enjoy a good Forbes or US News and World Report list especially when it’s highlighting how decent our area is to live or work or seek schooling.
As my allegiance to the actual city of Washington D.C. grows, my longstanding connection to Northern Virginia is something that never wanes and can never be denied. Today, one of our most dedicated readers and knowledgeable Virginians, Papa G, as he is fondly referred to as, sent a link our way listing the top 25 places for “the Rich and Single.”
Now that hits home because though I have ‘champagne taste and beer money,’ as they say, I fancy myself a rich and single man.
Coming in at #2 is none other than Arlington, Virginia, boasting a 41% single population.
The description reads similar to most that describe our area, blah blah blah — Arlington is close to the Pentagon and blah blah blah — Arlington houses government types and scientific geniuses, really nothing that would make anyone who isn’t from our area want to visit.
What they should have said about Arlington was that it’s safe. When’s the last time you read about a murder in Ballston?
A mention on how it’s more racially diverse than the state of Virginia and the U.S. as a whole would not have hurt now that I mention it. It also would not have hurt to to divulge that Arlington’s gender breakdown is about 50/50 making a case that there should be at least one person of the opposite sex dumb enough to go home with you. Herndon, Virginia also made the list at number 8 with 33% of its population being single. Pretty d*amn good for Fairfax County.
I don’t know how many times or how many different ways I have to say this: have pride in our area. You don’t have to be from New York, Los Angeles, or Boston to have pride in where you live. Hell, people from New Jersey have as much pride as the other three and they live in the geographic equivalent to a sewer (jokes, New Jersey is actually quite scenic).
