Virginia Tech News
In case you forgot I went to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. With that, every once and again I’m mandated by my loyalty and affinity for my school to remind you of how extraordinary I feel VT is and/or just give you a VT update. Today’s update is full of sobering reminders of bad times, but here I go anyway.
Remember when the Washington Times reported that the only two families, who did not settle out of court for damages after the Virginia Tech massacre, were suing the school, the state, and Cho’s estate for $10 million? Well, the case has been moved or transferred from Fairfax County to Montgomery County (the county where VT is located) and a judge has been appointed.
Sometimes I wonder just how free the US is? Then, I remember that it’s so free that the same online gun dealer, in this case Eric Thompson, could help arm three different murderers including the VT shooter and the recent gymnasium shooter. Remarkable.
Onto sports. Steve Young, John Elway, Steve McNair, and possibly Randall Cunningham are the prototypical NFL scramblers. They were proven or adept passers with the ability to run and run well.
There was a time when Michael Vick was in that category of scrambler with mind boggling potential but now he’s far removed from any NFL accolades of note although statistically he is only behind Young and Cunningham for most rushing yards ever by a quarterback. While Vick supposedly has at least five NFL teams interested in him, it’s been reported that the three-time pro-bowler and felon was at a strip club days before his meeting with NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell. Now, the most exciting player since Barry Sanders can be seen reppin’ VA with my favorite rapper, Young Jeezy. Call me a VT homer but as long as he isn’t harming animals or breaking any laws then we should let Mike live. No?
Virginia Tech erected a new basketball practice gym on campus recently and in case Deron Washington slam dunking on some unathletic Duke player slipped your mind, it’s depicted in larger than life size at the facility for posterity. Deadspin via Hokie sports :

Photos from Hokie football media day can be found here.
udothedishes . . .
that unathletic duke player was a division 1 point guard and now a division 1 QB and before that he was Mr. basketball and football in NY state. You can’t really call him unathletic, and I used to be a big Paulus hater, but you gotta give him his due respect. Nevertheless, I miss Deron….
we have no excitment left on the hokies now that he and Puerto Rico are gone…Brother malcom better step up his game…
Unathletic as far as college athletes go, yes I can call him that. If he were NCAA athletic he wouldn’t have lost his job the last two years at DUKE to an Athletic underclassman. It remains to be seen if this was a publicity stunt for a terrible, terrible football program in Syrcause U or if Greg can seriously play.
