Can I get a receipt?

As I was getting off the metro today I saw the same homeless man that I see everyday;  Street Sense Newspaper in hand, and imploring anyone for some spare change.

As I walked by and honestly told him “Sorry, Nothing” I stopped to wonder why?

I realized that the age of debit and credit cards is probably hardest felt by those who pan handle for change.  With money being more of an idea or computerized number instead of a tangible object, soon hard money will cease to exist.

I know it’s not at that point yet, but think about back in the day how much more success a bum had when asking for spare change.  If you had money, it was in hard form back then. You would probably feel guilty to lie about not having any to give.

These days people walk by with conviction, saying…I don’t have anything to give.  The difference? Their money is stored safe and sound on plastic, they are actually telling the truth.

Good luck bums, I think it’s time you reinvented your business model and started to take credit or debit.

  1. Blake the Megalomaniac says:

If I gave change to every homless person I saw in DC then I’d soon be joining them. Don’t know if that’s true or not but I do know I was asked outside of a 7-11 by a bum to buy him a burger so I did, and I also bought him a banana and he refused the banana. He REFUSED FREE FOOD and only ate the burger. Maddening
