Rich People Don’t Ride Metro
I hope you like the title because it was just to draw you in; the reality is rich people do ride the metrorail and rich people also ride the metrobus.
Rich, of course, being subjective. Median income of metrorail commuters is around $102,000 according to the transit authority. The transit authority also cites that the median income of metrobus riders as approaching $70,000. So, $102,000 and $70,000 isn’t Donald Trump money but those sums certainly bring home the bacon.
I guess when I say rich, I really mean wealthy and influential. Wealthy like every politician in our political system. Wealthy like every athlete we discuss during Fantasy Football 101 and 202 (assuming they haven’t blown their money on cars). Wealthy like I could die today and my non-liquid assets would be enough for my wife and kids to live off of until the year 2399 without so much as selling the Ashton Martin on eBay. Wealthy like some of our fellow Washingtonians on this list.
How often does Hillary Clinton, J.W. Marriot Jr., Scott Simon, David Parker, Thomas J. Donahue, John J. DeGioia, or any of the Washingtonian making buckets of money ride the metro? Not much or I’d imagine that the median income of riders would be a bit higher. If they did frequent the DC Metrorail or Metrobus more often while gallivanting around the Northern Capital Region then people wouldn’t have to die before things changed.
Why DO people have to die before we come to substantial revelations? Our society is eroding slowly and no one is accountable and no one has any pride in their profession or themselves and no one has any integrity. ‘No one’ to typically mean a lot but not all people. Safe to say that if Sonia Sotomayor was on the metrorail as this operator slept, she would use her influence and power to insure he was terminated.
I guess my point is that the good citizens who use metro instead of riding in their SUV alone are rewarded with incompetency and bad service. The attention being put forth to the problem hasn’t caused any significant upgrades either as far as I can see. I’m thinking if some of the people who get shuttled around in town cars and limos all day were on the metro more then things would change but instead, we’re building a new $900 million line out to Dulles to insure the stupidity continues and people are choosing to pay more and sit in traffic in their SUVs rather then feel unsafe as Dr. Gridlock reports.
Rich people don’t ride the metro but maybe they should.
