Happy Birthday to ME =)
So in honor of myself *wink wink* I decided I would write about the great day that is October 13th and birthdays in general. On this day in history, the likes of entertainer/singer Ashanti, the ice skating champion Nancy Kerrigan, the football great Jerry Rice, and outdoor clothing founder L.L. Bean all made their first appearances on this great planet on this day. And in joining these great individuals on this day, I just wanted to bring light to them on this day as well, for their contributions to society and history, in their respective fields.

So since we’re talking birthdays, the most common thing people ask:
- What did you get for your birthday?
- What are you doing for your birthday?
Well the tangible items that I received was a snuggie (sigh) and a gift that turned into a birthday present, since it arrived in the mail today.
A friend of mine is an artist and he painted me a portrait and framed it, and it was delivered to me today. So that was a great gift. See below!

If you are interested in his work you can check him out on Facebook, Myspace, or his professional website, www.franciswiafe.com.
So aside from the normal cards in the mail these were my gifts for the year.
As for what I’m doing for my birthday,….well, I think you get to a certain age where birthdays just aren’t a HUGE blowout celebration every year. (Although I am already formulating my plans for 30!). But it’s just nice to receive love from friends and family. I went to my favorite casual dining restaurant yesterday, The Cheesecake Factory, and then today I went to my favorite café, Café Rumi, in Ashburn.
I don’t really need to advertise for the Cheesecake Factory, as it seems they are doing well enough without my ratings of approval, but I will put in my two cents for CAFÉ RUMI, of Ashburn, VA.
This place is a café/sandwich shop/ice cream parlor/bakery, all wrapped up in one. It’s a great place to go for lunch because they have an assortment of sandwiches, classics and specials, and a complementary soup and salad menu. With a variety of warm beverages and cold drinks to suit, it’s really a wonderful place. They cater, and also do special events such as weddings and parties. Everything is HANDMADE and fresh with the finest ingredients. Check out a cake below:

It’s the BEST authentic sandwich pastry gelato spot around!!! Roast Beef and Brie sandwich served on 8-grain bread or authentic french bread, with homemade sauce,….YUM! The owner (and YES he is a CHEF!) selects all his items and regularly just makes them for his patrons himself. I can’t say enough about the high quality and low prices (sandwich, salad and chips for bout 8$ TOTAL). He prides himself on his product, not his bottom line and the love you feel when you walk in is unparalleled. If this place was in Fairfax, it would be PACKED all day. 5 STARS from Miss Pavla.
Anyway, a birthday is a great day to enjoy with your family and friends and I certainly have had a great day, thanks to all and enjoy your birthdays when they come!
