Sunday’s Food4Thought
[Sunday's Food4Thought is a recap of the past week's events in case you didn't have time to watch the news, read the paper, or otherwise be a well-read or tuned-in human being.]
A) The biggest story coming out of D.C. this week was the passing of Abe Pollin. Whenever someone passes, whether they’re close to me or not, I always think to myself that I’m not going to be sad that they’re dead but instead be happy that they lived. The passing of Mr. Pollin brought to light all the good he did for Washington and the Washington sports scene and to hear the admiration, love, and affection people felt for him really puts emphasis on his value and worth to this world. With that may I say R.I.P. Abe Pollin.
“The NBA family has lost its most revered member, whose stewardship of the Wizards franchise, together with his wife Irene, has been a study in unparalleled dedication to the city of Washington. During his illness he fought with a determination and valor that will remain an inspiration to all.” — NBA commissioner David Stern. [May I add that the Wizards went on to win two straight after Pollin's passing and have dedicated this season to him]
B) If you haven’t heard Ted Leonsis, the owner of the Washington Capitals, is poised to take over ownership of the Wizards. Washington D.C. will be a great sports town once again. Click here for more on Leonsis and the Wiz.
C) Photos of Katie Couric dancing came out this week and no one will ever say old chicks do not like fun.
D) MTV sucks. The Real World Sucks. The Real World DC subsequently will suck. But if you disagree click here for the trailer courtesy of the DCist for the upcoming season of completely real people doing completely real things.
E) The Secret Service allowed two white, well-to-do patrons to just walk into Mr. Barack Obama’s state dinner on Tuesday night. Now that couple is seeking mega bucks for the rights to interview them. Click here for that.
F) Switzerland has voted to ban the building of Muslim Minarets essentially voting against the spread of Islam in their country. Wow
G) In music, Rihanna released what some are calling drivel this past Tuesday. Have you heard it?
H) Black Friday is over (and racist sounding somehow), now bring on CyberMonday.
I) Your Department of Defense has ordered 2,200 Playstation 3 consoles. Why?
J) Finally, US Politicians are involved in something like a secret society to eradicate Uganda of homosexuals. I don’t know you tell me, I only skimmed this article.
How my teams are doing?
The Washington Redskins (3-8) lost to the Eagles today but played admirably for most of the game which at this point is all we can ask of them.
The Washington Capitals (15-5-6) beat the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night in a shootout and Caps fans were out on the town in droves (well in Arlington anyway).
The Washington Wizards (5-10) began the week by edging out the 76ers on the day that Abe Pollin passed then ended the work week with a huge win over the Miami Heat but turned around on Saturday night and wet the bed against the Bobcats. The Wizards are on the outside looking in regarding the playoffs but it’s still early so do not give up hope just yet because this team is really good. Mark my words.
The Washington Nationals (0-0) are having a stellar offseason. Here are the top 5 reasons Washington Nationals fans have to be thankful for . . .
The Virginia Tech Hokies (9-3) did what they were supposed to do in beating the Virginia Cavaliers ultimately leading to the demise of their head coach Al Groh.
The Lake Braddock Varsity Football Bruins (11-2) won the regional championship on Saturday afternoon stifling the Woodson Cavaliers. The Bruins will play Battlefied next Saturday at Battlefield in the state-semifinals. The all-region team has chalk full of Bruins.

What I learned this week?
Besides the fact that Tiger Woods can’t drive, I learned that no one and I mean no one is immune from embarrassment, making an occasional bad decision, and GOSSIP not even the sports world’s richest man.
Sign that the recession isn’t over yet?
Starving actor Luke Wilson does ATT commercial, bad ATT commercial.
