[Editor's Note: DMVixen.com is a new site which focuses on the "who's who" in the DC, MD, and VA areas.  They focus on highlighting artists, photographers, models, socialites, DJ's and people of interest from the Nation's Capital and beyond. We asked them to profile a few local artists that are continuing to push the DC entertainment scene]

I’m proud of our (the DC region) music scene.  The diversity, the style, and all-the-things in between.  I said last year that 2010 was going to be a BIG year for our area.  So far so good, wouldn’t you agree?

If I had to pick a few artists that I believe will catapult from the underground to the main scene this coming year I would have to say Lyriciss would be one of them.  His latest mixtape “The Practice” was an excellent showcase of his lyrical ability.  From Vol.1 Look At My Life and Hope to The Day Job and The Practice, we’re witnessing the development of a real artist.  He’s been featured on several mixtapes and continues to blossom with each feature.  I am confident that if Lyriciss continues the momentum he’s built up he’ll DEFINITELY leave his mark on the American music scene;  not to mention, represent our area to the utmost.

The next artist I suggest you keep your eye on this year is DC’s own Don Juan.  Don Juan isn’t one to be slept on; his Lookie Looky movement is spreading like wild fire and the message is positive.  Don Juan has everything an artist would need to survive in this industry.  He has an incredible fan base and not only is his message one of positivity and confidence, but his story is one that will inspire everyone.  Did I mention that Don Juan is signed to Jive Records? Yea, don’t sleep on him …

Last but DEFINITELY not least would be Morgan and Likeblood.

Morgan, a female rapper, holds it down on the underground scene.  Like many of the femcees before her she is lyrical and thought-provoking but unlike them she does it all without being “over-sexed.”  She follows her own rules and commands respect.  Have you heard this woman on the mic?  If you haven’t — you should check her out.  Like NOW.

Now, Likeblood is definitely grinding nonstop with their single Money Over Here featuring Bobby Valentino.  I don’t think these young men ever take a break – but I respect them so much for their hustle.  They have all overcome personal obstacles and turned them into triumphs.  I am so proud of them and where they are headed.  No doubt in my mind 2010 will be a great year for them as well.

I could go on and on because obviously, I love our music scene as a whole.  That’s why my partner Tiki and I are extremely diligent about showcasing each and every underground artist that has a dream, a passion, and vision.  I strongly believe that 2010 is the year for the DC, MD, and VA area to leave our mark on the music scene.  Artists such as Lyriciss, Don Juan, Likeblood and Morgan will lead us.  Keep your eyes on them in 2010… Why?  Because Vixen said so! XoXo
